We know that information is the key to many things, and that trusted facts shared in a way that matters to you are hard to find these days. Education is a cornerstone of the Precision Health & Wellness Institute. We have co-hosted annual educational events for providers and healthcare students about genomics, precision wellness and the integration of these concepts into practice. Our primary educational partner is the MS Genetic Counseling program at UNC Greensboro (UNCG). Genetic counseling is an allied health profession, where genetic counselors work with other healthcare providers and people to discuss how genetics influence health. The MS Genetic Counseling program is the oldest genetic counseling training program in North Carolina. Interested in learning more about genetic counseling in North Carolina? How It Will Work
Each clinic will be comprised of experts involved in the care of a specific diagnosis. The patient makes one appointment and may see multiple providers without having to leave the room, travel to different buildings, or schedule on multiple days. The providers communicate in real-time to ensure the highest quality, timely healthcare.
In addition to the doctors who are specialists, people may also meet with dieticians, genetic counselors, social workers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, researchers, or other allied health professionals who could help manage a condition or diagnosis. Not everyone will need to meet with all providers at every appointment, but the providers will be available to the healthcare team should the need arise.
